We focus on quality customer care. All of our Technology Leads have over 5 years of experience. All of our technology professionals are experienced and undergo a long evaluation and training period. You are trusting us with your business technology, it's important to us that we provide quality and experienced counsel.

Originally founded as Backpack Tactics LLC in 2010, we re-branded in 2018. Seeing a gap in thoughtful and caring technology providers for small to mid-size businesses and nonprofits, our founders, Brian Roemen and Joel Barker, started Backpack Tactics. Since our founding, we have grown to serve over 100 clients in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.

Operations Director
Jonathan Wittig is committed to driving meaningful, positive change within communities. With over two decades of experience spanning nonprofits, NGOs, and for-profit organizations in the United States and abroad, he brings a wealth of expertise in mission-driven leadership. As a former Executive Director, Jonathan successfully led cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams, primarily addressing food insecurity and advancing environmental sustainability initiatives. He creates impact by actively engaging stakeholders, understanding their challenges, and delivering solutions that align with and strengthen organizational goals.
Michael Taye
Service Delivery Director
As the Service Delivery Director at Brave North Technology, Michael focuses on making sure every client receives a seamless and high-quality IT experience. He is a people-first leader who enjoys building strong, responsive teams and refining our processes to better serve businesses and nonprofits. Michael is dedicated to fostering a culture of excellence and ensuring that our technology solutions always deliver real value to our partners.
Scott Madsen
IT Help Desk Director
Scott directs our Help Desk at Brave North, with a focus on collaboration and empathy, he is committed to making sure our team is there when it matters most. Dedicated to continuous improvement, he has maintained certifications in IT service management, network security, and Microsoft administration over the last decade, striving to always refine the flow of work and service delivery process.
Simon Ronald
Cybersecurity & IT Director
As the Cybersecurity & IT Director, Simon leads Brave North Technology’s Cybersecurity team and oversees the protection and stability of client environments. He specializes in Microsoft security, automation, and best practices to strengthen technology infrastructure and compliance. With a focus on proactive maintenance, process improvement, and client collaboration, Simon ensures technology remains secure, efficient, and aligned with your organization’s goals.
Joel Barker
President & CEO, Co-Founder
Joel leads the strategic consulting, policy management, RFP consulting, compliance, and business planning for our clients. He brings his experience working in senior leadership positions for small and large organizations to identify smart opportunities for technology within your organization.
Brian Roemen
Co-Founder
Brian serves as a tier 3 technician on the help desk team, supporting clients with the most complex and challenging problems. He brings his decades of direct experience working in small and large technology environments to enhance or build a system to best support your team.
